All of these things has to start out the same way ... "As an Ex Hasan fan...", but seriously this time I think we've crossed lines that I think results in the only fans he has left, is those being subscribed far to deep and unwilling to change habits, those that think they're in the club, and people that frankly don't know the full story yet. There's something about a dude cheering on communist style bloc housing, while owning a sprawling mansion in one of the top destinations in Cali, and staying in one of the most expensive hotel rooms in the world. (Potentially 40k a night).
And his audience laps it up, because they think they'd be in the room next door with him, not in the bloc serving his interests. Serving the STATE interests.
Hasan is someone that despite the numerous episodes of drama on him, is still gaining followers and subscribers. There's always going to be more young people, there's always going to be Hasan viewers and watchers because of that. He sells a brand that, unfortunetly takes advantage of those with not much going on, who think they're in the cool kids group, and generally not too knowledgeable about politics and our institutions. I think that's dangerous because he sells a world, that wouldn't exist, same with all populists do especially on the right.
And, to be again very clear. I think Hasan is aware of all of this. What I seek to do today, is to explore Hasans recent China trip, and expose the deep hypocrisy throughout the entire trip.
Firstly I want to bring up the fact that we're not sure who funded this trip, and what the deal of it is. As far as I'm aware it's tied more to Fear& the podcast, not Hasan specifically.
Considering the cost of the suite Hasan is staying in, I very much doubt this is on his own dime. But I'm not tied to that position. I don't think it's too outlandish to assume someone with the drive to consume that Hasan does, would buy the most expensive hotel room in the world.
And yes, Hasan getting a free upgrade to the top suite - that's still a conflict of interest. Linus from LTT actually talks about this extensively as to why they pay for their own travel and that kind of thing because they don't want to appear bias or have many conflicts. I think this is a good way to run things.
During Hasans stream of Day 2 the following is stated:
They have “a whole Chinese team out here.”
He is now a Bilibili streamer and his IRL content will be chopped up and posted on “Chinese social media platforms.”
He refers to “our tourism board tour guide” for Beijing and describes her as explaining the official narrative of Tiananmen and the flag ceremony.
He namechecks specific hotels (“most maxed out,” Rosewood Beijing) and high‑end restaurants (that kind of itinerary is often arranged/comped for promotion).
Already, we can see the potential for outside parties to get involved, such as...
Chinese platforms (Bilibili, XiaoHongShu, etc.), who clearly want Western streamer content.
Chinese tourism/municipal bureaus, who love curated influencer trips with local guides delivering a specific narrative.
Potential brand sponsors (Adidas collab jacket, hotel, etc.), even if they’re not explicitly tagged on stream.
In Europe especially it's if not illegal extremely frowned upon by not mentioning all of this upfront.
Given how aggressively he (rightly) hammers Western politicians and corporations for hidden incentives, this is a glaring omission.
If any part of flights, hotels, or local logistics are paid or organized by a public entity (city, province, tourism ministry) or by Bilibili/other platforms, that’s a major conflict of interest when he then turns around and tells millions of viewers how great everything is, how safe it feels, how overblown Western criticisms are, and how he’s basically “Chinese now.” Which is extremely funny to me, considering China does NOT adopt the enlightened view to citizenship and culture that the West does. He's actually and I know he's joking, imposing a western standard on another country there. I just find that slightly amusing.
Hasan had a run in with the Chinese police, if you haven't seen the article on that, I recommend looking at that to see live, in action his mental gymnastics to downplay that situation.
He then went over his own VPN usage, deflecting any attacks on the state of Chinese online interactions, and I believe reflecting on that with his stances on US Government intervention in the online space. Is pretty rich.
